Fractional & Interim Leadership: Director-Level Experience Without the Full-Time Salary

For companies that need senior leadership now but cannot yet justify a full-time executive hire.

Fractional Sales VPInterim DirectorContract Operations LeaderPart-Time Sales Executive

The problem

What this usually looks like

You need someone senior running sales or operations. A full-time director costs six figures plus benefits, takes three months to recruit and another three to ramp, and if the hire is wrong you start over. Meanwhile the team has no leader and the quarter is already moving.

How I approach it

I step in part-time or on an interim basis and run the function: the team, the pipeline, the forecast, the budget. You get twenty years of operating experience for a fraction of a full-time salary, starting in days rather than months. When the business is ready for a permanent hire, I help you recruit them and hand over cleanly.

Scope

What I actually do

Run the sales or operations function directly, targets, cadence, team management and reporting to ownership.

Cover a leave, a sudden departure or the gap between a resignation and a permanent hire.

Own the number: forecast, pipeline, budget and P&L accountability, reported the way your board wants to see it.

Build the systems and documentation so the function does not depend on any one person.

Recruit, hire and onboard my own permanent replacement, then transition out properly.

Deliverables

What you get

  • Weekly leadership cadence and reporting
  • Documented processes and operating procedures
  • Team performance assessment and development plans
  • Forecast and budget ownership
  • Succession plan and permanent-hire handover

Outcomes

What changes

  • Senior leadership in place in days, not two quarters
  • No six-figure salary commitment while you stabilize
  • Systems documented so the next leader inherits a functioning team

Engagement

How we work together

Fractional, one to three days per week, ongoing

Interim, full-time for a defined period

Project-based leadership for a specific initiative

Questions

Straight answers

How much time do you commit to a fractional engagement?

Typically one to three days per week for fractional roles, or full-time for interim coverage. The cadence is agreed in writing before we start.

Can a fractional leader really manage a team?

Yes, when the operating rhythm is designed for it, fixed weekly cadence, clear ownership between visits, and documented process rather than hallway decisions. That structure usually improves the team even after I leave.

What happens when we hire someone permanent?

I help you recruit them, onboard them and hand over documented systems. A clean exit is part of the engagement, not an afterthought.
